(May 16, 2015) - Fitness blogger of Dangerous Cupcake, Donna, loved shaking up her workout routine with the FXP Hula Hoop® System. Bored of the usual workouts such as running, Donna decided to challenge her body; she says “…the key to shaping our bodies and burning calories is to continue to move in different ways.”

Donna is a frequent Zumba goer, but openly admits to not having the “dance gene.” She does Zumba because it is fun - so at first the idea of having to manage a hula hoop worried her.

Feeling kind of hesitant, the first thing Donna did was watch the DVDs to calm her nerves. After watching she felt that “the DVD was relieving. The exercise looked challenging but do-able. The three 15-minute videos for the FXP Hula Hoop Workout System helps you get ‘Fit in 15.’ The videos have you using the hula hoop not just to hoop- but for sculpting, strengthening, and toning, all in 15 minutes. “

It's safe to say that she is excited to add the FXP hula Hoop to her workout now! Donna says “Having a good time while working muscles I don’t normally use, knowing I’m burning calories, is a wonderful addition to my weekly exercise.”

Dallas, Texas Fox 4 Dallas anchors Jenny Anchondo and Jen Myers welcomed Kristin Benton and Kat Suwalski of FXP Fitness onto their show!

Dallas, Texas Fox 4 Dallas anchors Jenny Anchondo and Jen Myers welcomed Kristin Benton and Kat Suwalski of FXP Fitness onto their show!
Anchondo introduced FXP Fitness as "a childhood past time [hula hooping] kicked up a notch. Learn how you can incorporate hula hooping into your fitness routine. If you are sick of going to the gym and doing the same ole routine - here's a workout you can do at home!"

When Anchondo asked Benton what FXP hoop fitness is all about, Benton happily explained that "F of FXP stands for fun, because what's more fun than working out with a hula hoop? X is for x-cessible - anyone all ages all stages can do the workouts. Plus, the hoop breaks down into 6 pieces comes in a bag, so you can take the with you anywhere. P stands for progressive, so the workout grows with you as you grow with the workout!

Anchondo was ready to get spinning and said, "Let's see if we can embarrass ourselves and get started!" Suwalski got right into teaching waist hooping "because everyone loves to waist hoop!" To their surprise, Anchondo and Myers immediately got the hoop spinning. Anchondo noted that "the weight of this hoop makes it a little bit easier because it's heavier."

Suwalski immediately agreed, and explained that's because "it's an adult sized hoop. The hoop weighs 2 lb., which makes waist hooping it easier. When it spins easily, you can focus on activating your core and engage your muscles.

After waist hooping, the group worked it out to 2nd Wide Plié to target obliques and calf muscles, and Sumo Squats for cardio and to tone the inner thighs and chest muscles. An awesome aspect about the FXP Fitness System is that waist hooping is only one component of the program (it's just one out of 50 moves that fuse barre, pilates, yoga and HIIT). So if you can't get waist hooping down just yet, you can totally do the rest of the routine!

Suwalski and Benton explained during the workout that FXP Fitness provides 4 DVDs and classes across the country!

Here's What Borchers Had To Say:

Many people haven’t picked up a hula hoop since grade school, but Kat Suwalski is out to make a forgotten playground toy Greater Boston’s next fitness craze.

Suwalski, a personal trainer who uses kettle bells to help her clients get buff, is leading the Bay State launch of a high-intensity interval training program called FXP Fitness, which puts exercisers through pulse-pounding sequences of lunges, squats, abdominal work and more — all with an extra sturdy, two-pound hula hoop.

“You can burn 650 calories in an hour,” said Suwalski. “If that’s what you get from being out on the playground, I’ll take it.”

Founded last year, FXP is an Arizona company hoping trainers like Suwalski will introduce its hoop-based regimen at gyms all over the country. On Sunday Suwalski will lead a daylong FXP certification course for local fitness instructors at Diosa Dance Yoga Health in Framingham.

So if your trainer unexpectedly breaks out a hula hoop during your next workout, you’ll know why.

With the company of stability balls, free weights, resistance bands and the jump rope (another childhood toy turned fitness equipment), the fitness hoop made the list as a must-have home gym workout tool!

Here's what she had to say:

If you’re looking to create the home gym of your dreams, purchasing a high-quality hula hoop is an absolute must. Hula hooping in general is a low-impact, high-intensity exercise that works the muscles of the core like no other exercise can. The continuous swinging motions involved in hooping specifically help in developing the muscles of the lower back as well as all the abdominal muscles including the obliques (side abdominals) and the rectus abdominis ("six-pack").

Hooping is also excellent for improving the overall appearance of your lower-body. Since hooping involves rapid and repetitive back-and-forth swinging motions about the waist and other joints (hips, knee and ankles) you can burn a generous amount of calories (200-250 calories in 30 minutes) while doing so. Need ideas for a good hula hoop? Check out the many kits offered by FXP Fitness each of which includes a retractable hula hoop, carrying bag, exercise guide, and a DVD workout.

Dr. Nina Cherie recommends the FXP Fitness System for cardio and toning.
Dr. Nina Cherie recommends the FXP Fitness System for cardio and toning.

Cardiovascular (cardio) exercise is by far one of the best ways to burn body fat and lose weight, there’s no doubt about that. However, performing this type of exercise doesn’t require expensive, monotonous equipment and, above all, it doesn’t have to be boring. In an effort to add variety and newness to my cardio workouts, I’ve just recently begun hula hooping. Hula hooping (or simply "hooping") is a low-impact throwback exercise that’s highly effective for weight loss, virtually no cost, and unbelievably fun. That said, if you’re trying to lose weight, here are three ways that hooping can help get you there.

Increases Calorie Expenditure

In order to lose weight the amount of calories you expend or burn must always exceed the amount of calories you consume. Regular hula hooping greatly supports substantial and sustained weight loss through increases in calorie expenditure. This holds especially true when your hooping efforts are coupled with sensible eating and good nutrition. Ideally, a weight loss plan should consist of a caloric restriction of 250-500 calories per day along with an expenditure of at least 250 calories per day through physical activity. Believe it or not, just 30 minutes of hooping can burn as much as 200-250 calories.

Builds Up Fat Burning Muscle

Although low-impact, hula hooping can be a highly intense form of cardio as it involves rapid and repetitive back-and-forth swinging motions usually about the waist, hips, knees, and ankles. Due to the dynamic nature of the motions involved, regular hooping can greatly build muscular endurance and strength in ways that significantly elevate the metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn calories). It’s true! The more muscle you have the higher your metabolic rate and the more calories you’ll burn during any type of activity, even at rest!

Effectively Sculpts Core Muscles

In addition to its calorie burning potential, hula hooping works the core muscles like no other cardio exercise can. This is especially beneficial if you tend to carry excess weight in and around your midsection. The continuous swinging motions involved in hooping help develop the muscles of the lower back as well as all the abdominal muscles including the obliques (side abdominals) and the rectus abdominis ("six-pack"). Although you can’t spot reduce fat around the midsection, as you lose weight with regular hooping your sculpted core muscles will surely start to shine through.

So there you have it! A fun and highly effective cardio exercise for weight loss that doesn’t even require stepping foot in a gym. Now, if I’ve sold you on the benefits of hula hooping for weight loss, let me also sell you on a great product – The FXP Fitness Hula Hoop®. The first of its kind, this portable hula hoop is perfectly weighted (2 pounds) and designed for use by all ages and fitness levels.

FXP Fitness specifically offers five levels of affordable workout kits each of which includes a retractable hoop, carrying bag, guides, and at-home fitness DVDs. The DVD workouts are low-impact and very efficient incorporating a good blend of Pilates, barre, and yoga in a high-intensity interval training format for maximum fat burning and overall core strengthening. You don’t even need to know how to hoop on your hips to use the FXP Fitness Hula Hoop®, which is one of the primary reasons I love this product and highly recommend it. The best part: you don't even have to waist hoop to reap the benefits from the FXP workout (it's deeply rooted in pilates, ballet barre, and yoga principles).

When asked exactly what FXP Fitness stands for, Suwalski proclaimed, "The F stands for fun. If you find something you like to do, you'll automatically do more of it. X is for X-cessible and the P is for progressive. The workout grows with you!"

When prompted on the portability of the hoop, Suwalski explained that "The hoop comes apart into [6] components so you can take it with you anywhere."

The host asked to learn the basics of the workout, so Suwalski started with waist hooping (because everyone wants to waist hoop!). Once she gave instructions, the entire news room was hooping and excitement was in the air. The next move was the sumo squat, which tones the lower and upper body at the same time.

After working it out, cohost Taryn Asher commented that "This is great to do with your kids. My daughter has been hula hooping a lot lately!" Suwalski confirmed that it's a great activity for the whole family.

Watch them whirl away calories, tone muscles, and share laughs on air in this video!

Blogger behind the IE Mommy reviews the FXP Fitness Hula Hoop Workout, and finds the fun (along with a little humor) in fitness.

Here's her reaction to her first whirly workout:
This is seriously the funnest workout ever! I mean how can you NOT have fun when a hula hoop is involved? I wasn’t really sure what to expect with the workout DVD. It’s been a few years since I’ve even used a Hula Hoop. I was excited when I tried it that my hips remembered! It didn’t hurt that my five year old daughter Paige thought it was the funniest thing she’d ever seen.

Here's her review of the hoop:
First of all, this is the biggest Hula Hoop I’ve ever seen! It comes in several pieces that you snap together. I absolutely love the convenience of this! It even comes with a storage bag so you can put it away somewhere and just take it out when you need it. The one drawback of Hula Hoops to me is how they’re awkward and take up a lot of space even though there’s not much to them. Not so with this one!

It’s also a nice, thick sturdy material. It isn’ like the cheap, plastic kind I grew up on. This is a solid piece of fitness equipment and after working out with it, that’s exactly how I think of it!

Here, she gives the skinny on the workouts:
The DVD is a Fit in 15 workout series and includes three different workouts: Cardio Blast, Lower Body Sculpt and Sculpted Arms and Abs. I really like this division! Since it’s almost summer and I live in tank tops, the sculpted arms were what I wanted most! Plus I’m not going to lie, I really really don’t like cardio so I like having the option to just sculpt and tone sometimes. I make sure to do as much cardio as I need for my heart but not a whole lot more than I have to! These workouts are all low impact and were inspired by things like Yoga and Pilates that are high intensity without putting any pressure on joints and bones. It’s great for all fitness levels and you can burn over 800 calories per hour! When I read that I was sold!

Anastasia worked it out to the Fit in 15 DVD, which is great for fitting in your cardio and strength training in a small window of time. According to her heart rate monitor, she burned 110 calories in 15 minutes! Here's her review of the cardio portion:
I loved [the cardio section] because it was fun and went by so quickly. The instructor, Niece Pecenka, is just motivating and cheery enough with her instruction without being grating.
After completing all three 15-minute portions of the workout (Cardio, Lower Body, and Arms and Abs), Anastasia concluded this about the hoop:
I think it’s brilliant to use the hoop as a prop to makes certain moves easier. But don’t think it’s not challenging, because with all the reps and pulses you will definitely feel the burn!

the travel hoop is the best I have experienced. My former travel hoop has tiny screws that were constantly coming loose after use making assembly and disassembly a nightmare without a screwdriver. The FXP hoop pieces are solid molded plastic and have no hitches. The weight of the hoop is nice too, better than my former travel hoop.
